Is it possible to engrave a carabiner? And how can I identify a metallic product when its serial number is no longer decipherable?

All carabiners have an individual identification number. It is the user's responsibility to ensure the traceability of all his or her PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).

In certain hostile environments, the laser-engraved marking may wear out or become difficult to read. In that case, users can refer to the engraved number on the body of the carabiner, if there is any. They can also add identification themselves:

• It is possible to use an electric engraving pen (depth of less than 0.1 mm) to engrave the number on the frame, next to the serial number. Warning: stamp lettering (typewriter-like steel punch letters) is strictly forbidden, as is any machining of the product.
• You can also identify your metal equipment with a small amount of paint (paint pen or metal writing paint). Warning: do not dip your equipment in paint. Apply a small, thin marking of paint - not too thick. As we cannot test every available paint, we recommend that you use metal-compatible paint.

Remember that you must not mark any "working areas", and that marks must be made on a part of the body where there is no rubbing against another device or rope. The marks must not hide the various original markings (serial number, standards, etc.) and must be discreet.
