Petzl RocTrip 2014 - Ep2 - Bulgaria, Vratsa, Karlukovo

The second country on the 2014 Petzl RocTrip, Bulgaria reveals a land of contrasts. Whether it was the climbing or the weather, the base camp in Vratsa delivered it all. RocTrippers who came looking for adventure received even more than they bargained for. As the second base camp in Bulgaria, the stopover in Karlukovo will remain deeply engraved in everyone's memory: first, by the power and the strangeness of the area; second, by the lightning fast visit of the "king" himself, Chris Sharma; and third by the good vibes, camaraderie, and overall enthusiasm.

Chris Sharma For me, climbing is a liberating activity: "Climbing has been my life since I was 12 years old, and has allowed me to discover the most beautiful places in the world. My specialty is hard new routes. This pursuit provides me with concrete goals in life and allows me to channel my energy. It’s my own personal way of being a part of society. I think it’s really important in my progression for climbing to stay excited and feel like you’re doing new things, and not get stuck in a rut..." In our sport, this is fundamental to being able to complete difficult multi-pitch routes. Being outside, living life to the fullest, meeting people on the same wavelength, climbing together... That is happiness for me. My first big competition was the youth championships in Beijing... It was the first big memory for "Little Nina". I love this feeling of succeeding in competitions. Competing with yourself doesn't really do it for me. I am always looking to improve in sport climbing and to complete the great routes that I hold really close to my heart."
