An Expertise Built on Decades of Experience
A lot of time has passed since the early 1970s when Petzl came out with its “all-on-your-head” lamp. It was the first headlamp designed to allow the user to truly go hands-free. Guess what was used for the headband? An elastic garter purchased at a local shop… true story! This first series paved the way for the long line of headlamps that has followed.

Petzl’s main objective over the years has always been to provide the best visibility possible whenever the user, camper, or athlete ventures into the dark. This approach is what led Petzl to break the mold of how a headlamp is made and what it can do.

Conceived after months of research, testing, brainstorming, and innovating, the IKO headlamp, little by little, began to see the light.
Our designers and engineers had free rein to revolutionize the relationship between the user and their headlamp. At first, the prototype proved a real challenge to mass produce: one of the major barriers to overcome between design and manufacturing. However, instead of focusing on how to change the design to make mass production easy, Petzl took the time to perfect the manufacturing process for the best design.
The result: an innovative yet simple design, a supple hydrophobic headband that produces minimal compression on the head, an ultra-thin light panel with multiple LEDs, and unprecedented versatility. This stylish and nicely-balanced headlamp, jam-packed with technology, continues Petzl’s long tradition of excellence in performance and reliability.
