Everything You Need to Know about the Updated AQUILA and HIRUNDOS Harnesses

One range, two harnesses — AQUILA is a super comfortable harness for sport climbing, trad climbing, and mountaineering. In short, it's ideal for climbers who are looking for comfort and low weight! HIRUNDOS is designed for the athlete who wants to send pitches in the gym or at the cliff. Although they share the same technical construction, each harness is designed to meet the specific needs of different climbers. 

FUSEFRAME construction — AQUILA and HIRUNDOS have a thin, lightweight construction, lending itself to sleek design. The harnesses are both flexible, light, and thin, to bring you the greatest freedom of movement possible. Additionally, the closed-cell FUSEFRAME construction and waistbelt with smooth-seamed edges make them extra comfy when you're hanging.

Strong, durable tie-in points — harness tie-in points endure a lot of abuse and can become worn with intensive use over time. That's why the AQUILA and HIRUNDOS are reinforced with high-modulus polyethylene (HMPE) for improved resistance to wear from rope friction.

Multiple practical gear loops — both harnesses have two semi-rigid front gear loops for racking quickdraws, nuts, or belay devices, as well as two flexible rear gear loops to easily access and rack quickdraws, angled to bring gear to the front, and comfortable when carrying a backpack. AQUILA has a large rear gear loop for racking bulky gear (large cams or specific gear).

Rear accessory loop — AQUILA and HIRUNDOS both feature a rear accessory loop for carrying a chalk bag, shoes, quick link, tagline, or other gear. Durable and easy to access, the accessory loop will prove itself useful in a variety of situations.

Compatible with the CARITOOL EVO, an ice screw holder that's great for organizing your gear. It's perfect for ice climbing or mountaineering as additional space to rack gear. Fixed to the harness waistbelt, it allows you to easily access, rack, and organize gear, such as ice screws, an ice axe, or a hammer, with one hand. The CARITOOL works seamlessly with the AQUILA and HIRUNDOS, and you can attach more than one to the waistbelt of either harness.

DOUBLEBACK HD buckles — the waistbelt and leg loops on the AQUILA are equipped with the forged aluminum DOUBLEBACK HD buckles. These buckles stay locked in the double back position and the harness webbing glides smoothly through them for quick, easy, and precise adjustment. It's never been easier to get the perfect fit!

Adjustable and detachable leg loop elastics — important for comfort and properly positioning the leg loops in the event of a fall or when hanging in the harness for a long period of time. It's easy to unfasten them, which comes in handy if a pressing need arises and you can't take off your harness...

Compact and lightweight — these harnesses were designed to be as lightweight and compact as possible; with the HIRUNDOS weighing in at 310 grams and the AQUILA at 410 grams (size M), we think it's a win. Their construction and design have reduced the weight to the point that you might just forget you're wearing a harness at all. The FUSEFRAME construction provides comfort and compactness, a big plus when it comes to saving space in your pack as you head to the gym, the crag, or into the mountains.

Sizing and color options — the AQUILA and HIRUNDOS harnesses are each available in four different sizes, from XS to L for the HIRUNDOS, and from S to XL for the AQUILA. The two models are available in black and HIRUNDOS is also available in orange, the standard color used for Petzl products from our PERFORMANCE range.
