Petzl RocTrip Mexico 2010

Never before has a Petzl RocTrip mixed together so much climbing and local culture one simmering pot.

We spiced it up with a few special ingredients: passion, fun, and shared experiences. The Petzl RocTrip 2010 in Mexico welcomed people from all corners of the world to the unique climbing destinations of El Chonta et Las Peñas de Jilotepec, with a stop at the Aztec pyramides of Teotihuacán.

Said Belhaj Climbing as a way of life: "For Team Petzl climbers, rock climbing is a way of life that goes beyond passion. We climb on a daily basis and can never get enough. It’s a lifestyle that never stops, even if it's not always possible to earn enough to live off of climbing. The sport is connected to life, to nature. Being outside and climbing all the time is almost animallike. Traveling, meeting people, and sharing something that didn't exist the day before provide infinite social value." Nina Caprez Searching for happiness in the present moment. "I have great confidence in myself. I am someone who is sure of herself. In our sport, this is fundamental to being able to complete difficult multi-pitch routes. Being outside, living life to the fullest, meeting people on the same wavelength, climbing together... That is happiness for me. My first big competition was the youth championships in Beijing... It was the first big memory for "Little Nina". I love this feeling of succeeding in competitions. Competing with yourself doesn't really do it for me. I am always looking to improve in sport climbing and to complete the great routes that I hold really close to my heart." Dave Graham An accomplishment : "I started climbing when I was 15 years old at an indoor wall and quickly moved on to bouldering and outdoor sport climbing. One day I counted how many climbing spots there are in the world and realized straight away how happy my life was going to be. Strangely enough, when I started I had no idea how much climbing would bring to my life. I wanted to go to university, become a hockey player and start a punk rock group. But now my climbing has become an extension of myself. Climbing enriches my life and connects me to millions of people with the same passion, spirit and determination." Steve McClure I prefer climbing at the crags near my home: "I'm primarily a sport climbing specialist, and probably much better at short technical routes than anything multi-pitch. I prefer the routes close to where I live. I just naturally adopted this lifestyle. When I was a kid, I was always traveling with my parents, who were climbers. I never really chose this lifestyle, I just knew it was the way I wanted to live. Rock climbing and being outside in nature are simply part of my life. At first, I climbed a lot of trad. I improved quickly and had a hard time finding the right trad routes for me. Since then, sport climbing has allowed me to experience the physical challenge of climbing, while also allowing me to spend time outside with friends. My profession is climbing. I work locally, near my home. I have a special connection with climbing in my country. I think you have to like the place where you live."
